Lord Teach us to Pray (Part 3)
Jesus Teaches us to Pray About Three Things
1. God’s vision and purpose for mankind.
We pray that God’s kingdom come and his will be done on earth like it is in heaven. When we look around in our world there is so much pain and suffering. The impact of the fall of man has tormented the lives of so many. We should pray that heaven come crashing down to earth. Where do you see pain or heartache in your world? What can you do today to bring a little slice of heaven into their lives?
2. My physical needs
Jesus told them to ask God for their daily bread. God is concerned about our needs. The hard thing for us to determine between our needs and desires. What are your needs? How do determine your needs from your desires? Should you pray about your desires or just your needs?
3. My spiritual needs
We ask God to forgive us of our sins and to keep us from temptation. Besides forgiveness and not being tempted what are some other spiritual needs you have? When you pray how much of your prayers center around your physical life compared to your spiritual life?
One Overarching Principle
Jesus began his prayer by recognizing God’s greatness. I believe the purpose of this is to praise God and to help us remember who we are praying to. God is the one who can answer our prayers. He is the one who has the ability to accomplish his will on earth, to provide for our physical and spiritual needs. We begin by honoring God and reminding ourselves who he is and why we are praying to him.
